I’ve been wearing these for about two weeks now. First off, the boots look great out of the box. I usually wear a 9.5 and went with a 10 based on reviews of other similar Kamik boots.
In terms of heel-to-toe length, I do think they are more or less true to size; the fit is a bit odd though. They are pretty narrow on the foot and noticeably snug in the toe box – I figured this was in part because of the thicker lining, but I was surprised as I generally consider myself to have narrow feet. For being snug around the foot, the boot is then really loose around the ankle/lower leg. I don’t want to really crank down on the laces to tighten them because it would really make the leather portion look awkwardly scrunched onto my ankle and foot. I guess I can go with a thicker sock, but that might cause issues where the fit is already a bit snug in the forefoot. I will say that the tread pattern is great in ice/snow and I haven’t had any issues when it comes to warmth.
My real gripe with these is that they’re made in India! A friend turned me on to Kamik because of their reputation for being manufactured in Canada. One of the primary reasons why I ordered these boots (as opposed to a comparable boot from another company) was to support a brand that supposedly takes pride in making their products in North America. Unfortunately, according to the label on the inside of the tongue, that doesn’t seem to be the case for the Yukon 5. My girlfriend has a pair of Kamiks in a similar style, and they were made in Canada – it could just be coincidence, but the stitching on her boots is much cleaner and the materials seem a bit nicer. I don’t want to throw a fit over where a product is made, but if it comes at the expense of quality, I hope the company reassesses their decision to start manufacturing overseas. I’d be willing to pay a bit more if I know I’m getting something made in the USA/Canada.

Boots looked great, but my husband did not like the thick lining. We live in the south and it does not get cold enough here. We were hoping these boots would work as just rain boots, but they would be too warm for that.

Fit the foot fine but EXTREMELY uncomfortable above the ankle. The leather in the shaft of the boot is too stiff, perhaps due to the waterproof treatment. At the end of the day I had black and blue bruising on my lower legs, even though I had worn the boots with thick socks. The only way I can wear the boots comfortably now is by tying the laces above the instep and omitting the top two sets of grommets–a lot of good that will do me in the snow! I am very displeased with this product.
